Archaeological area of S'Ortali e su Monti
The complex nuraghe has a plant irregularly elliptical, non-canonical, a central tower and lateral towers dating back to 1500 BC. In stratigraphy were found also burials in Roman times. The entrance has an architrave surmounted by a triangular window, with the purpose of lightening the weight of the masonry. The block of architrave originates from the reuse of a menhir, perhaps coming from the alignment (which remain two) that insists on the nearby hill.
Outside the walls were in the past were discovered some nuragic huts and, toward the north, an area intended for the storage of grain, guarded in ten silos. Many of the huts were also equipped with millstones. This discovery has made it possible to hypothesise that the main activity exerted by the inhabitants of the village was the cultivation of wheat and its subsequent processing.
Near the nuraghe is present also a domus de janas (Sardinian: "House of the Fairies" or of the "Witches") which is in truth a cave dug in rocks by ancient Sardinian civilisations over 5, 000 years ago, in the Recent Neolithic.
Carved into the granite rocks (also in limestone or basalt), the tombs consist of one or multiple, adjacent, circular rooms which are all connected by a central room. While in Ogliastra they are made in a very simplified form, presenting only a few small rooms whitout decorations, in the northern area of the island appear some wonderful domus: in their structure, they imitate ordinary homes decorated with columns, wood door frames, roof beams, seats and a religious symbol in form of false doors that signaled a passageway to the beyond. Furthermore, in the chambers, there was a large number of funeral goods such as vases, figurines, necklaces, utensils from daily life and weapons.
Giants' tomb (Italian: Tomba dei giganti, Sardinian: Tumba de zigantes / gigantis) is the traditional name to a type of Sardinian megalithic collective tombs built during the Bronze Age by the Nuragic civilization. There are two general types of giants' tomb. In the so-called "slab type" or “dolmen-type”, uncut slabs are buried on end in the ground, and are arranged side-by-side. There is usually a central stele, which is the largest slab (up to 4 m in height) and has a doorway cut through it. The other type, similar to the first in the scheme, is instead built with rows of stones and takes the name of "block type".
The giants’ tomb of S'Ortali e su Monti is a dolmen-type monument that present a moulded stele and keeps most of its burial and apsed chamber.
Not far from the tomb stand one aniconic and one protoanthropomorphic menhirs dated to 2700-1800 b. C.
